7 Tips for Beginners

Is it your first time going white water rafting? We recommend following the tips below:

  1. Listen to the guide. White water rafting guides are skilled and experienced white water rafters who know the area by heart. All they want is the safety of all participants, and it’s your responsibility to listen to their instructions. When they provide paddling commands, we recommend following them.
  2. Use your camera at your own risk. Unlike other activities, you can’t just stop in the middle of a fast-flowing river to take pictures. However,  you can bring a camera, just be sure to have a container to store cameras or phones that are water-resistant or waterproof. Get the best of the scenery when your white water rafting, but use or bring that equipment at your own risk.
  3. Book the right trip. If you’re a beginner, book a family-friendly trip. Class I and III rapid classifications have easy to a little faster moving waters, but rocks and holes are easily avoided, ages 5 and up.
  4. Wear appropriate clothing. Dress appropriately for the water based on weather conditions. Wear a swimsuit, and in cooler weather, you can rent wetsuits. Don’t forget to bring sunscreen. Outfitter will provide you with a life jacket, helmet, and paddle, which must be worn at all times, even when the river is easy to navigate. Never remove your personal flotation device (PFD) while on the river.
  5. Avoid bringing other things with you. Unless you’re willing to lose whatever you take on your white water rafting trip, we recommend leaving your items locked in your car and the keys can be left at the office check in.
  6. Book early. Book early to secure your desired date. You can effectively plan your trip by booking a trip several weeks to months in advance.
  7. Relax and enjoy. White water rafting is a fun outdoor activity. Relax and enjoy your trip, make new friends, unplug, and enjoy an all natural adventure off the grid!
